Giampaolo Dallara is one of the most influential engineers in modern motorsport and the founder of Dallara Group S.r.l., the world’s leading manufacturer of racing chassis. For more than six decades, his work has shaped the engineering, safety, and performance standards of global racing.
After earning an aeronautical engineering degree from Politecnico di Milano, Dallara began his career working with Ferrari, Maserati, and Lamborghini, contributing to some of Italy’s most important performance vehicles of the 1960s. He later joined De Tomaso and subsequently became chief designer at Formula One team Williams, gaining deep experience in top-tier motorsport engineering.
In 1972, he founded Dallara Automobili in Varano de’ Melegari, Italy. The company would go on to become the dominant supplier of chassis for numerous racing series worldwide, including IndyCar, Indy NXT, Formula 2, Formula 3, Super Formula, and multiple endurance and junior categories. Dallara’s engineering innovations have significantly improved both vehicle performance and driver safety across international motorsport.
Beyond competition vehicles, the company has expanded into road cars, advanced simulation, and engineering consultancy, supporting manufacturers and racing teams around the world. Giampaolo Dallara’s legacy lies not only in victories won in his cars, but in advancing the science and safety of racing itself.
