Inducted 2026

Peter Frans Pauwels is a co-founder of TomTom and helped build one of the most influential navigation technology companies serving both consumers and the automotive industry.

In 1991, together with Harold Goddijn, Corinne Vigreux, and Pieter Geelen, Pauwels co-founded the Amsterdam-based company that would grow into TomTom. Combining technical expertise with entrepreneurial vision, he helped guide the company’s early development as it moved from handheld software solutions into navigation technologies that reshaped personal and automotive travel.

TomTom’s portable navigation devices brought digital routing and mapping to millions of drivers, accelerating global adoption of GPS navigation. As vehicle technology evolved, TomTom expanded into automotive navigation, mapping platforms, and traffic data services that today support manufacturers and mobility companies worldwide.

Pauwels’ work helped lay the foundation for TomTom’s continued evolution into a provider of digital mapping and location intelligence central to connected and autonomous vehicle development.

His contributions have played a lasting role in how drivers and vehicles navigate the modern world.
